Noted parallel with 5030 (fair), 6030 (fair-poor, mixing with C&W singing from Calgary [CFVP]) and 7280 (good). This jamming is very effective, especially with the strong echo. Thanks to a tip from Dan Sheedy (Ron Howard, CA, Etón E1, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CHINA [and non]. The current frequencies of supposed jamming against Sound of Hope heard here are 16525, 14420, 13970, 10300, 7300. Re: TAIWAN. 11785, Radio Taiwan International, 1130-1150, Sept 15, New Frequency? // 9680, 9780 - all with fair to good reception in listed Mandarin. Local music (Brian Alexander, PA, DX LISTENING DIGEST) 11785, CNR-1, 1130-1150, Sept 15, // 9680, 9780 - all frequencies with fair to good reception. Local music. This corrects my previous log of Taiwan on these frequencies. My log of Taiwan on these frequencies is actually China- CNR-1. Thanks to Ron Howard for the correct info (Brian Alexander, PA, DX LISTENING DIGEST) The CNR-1 transmissions are all intended jamming - on 11785 is VOA's Mandarin service via Udorn at 1100-1400, while on 9680 is listed Radio Taiwan International at 1100-1800 and on 9780 at 1000-1400, both via Huwei and in Mandarin according to the current WRTH and schedule. None of these frequencies appears in the current NDXC schedule for CNR. As a clue to what's going on, the Chinese usually operate more than one jamming transmitter, and often out of sync causing an echo. Watch your S meter and you'll see it "wobbles about" continuously. And at times the Chinese will also 'entertain' us with the drums and cymbals of Firedrake too. Also check the schedules of the VOA, RFA, BBC and All India Radio - as well as that of RTI - for their Mandarin, Tibetan and Uighur language broadcasts. And if that isn't enough, the Clandestine stations listed under China on pp 504 of the current WRTH are all jammed by China using a mixture of multiple CNR transmissions and Firedrake (Noel R. Green (NWEngland), dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) Hi Noel, Thank you for your helpful input. The use of CNR-1 for jamming is so prevalent now that it can be confusing. Have found that a quick check for a known parallel usually solves the identity question. Today (Sept 16) noted an example of the echo you talk about. On 9450, just after 1400, heard a strong CNR-1, with echo (operating more than one jamming transmitter and out of sync, causing echo). Plus heard the Firedrake/music jamming here too, all for the purpose of jamming the Sound of Hope (scheduled for 1400-1600). CNR-1 was clearly // 5030. Aoki's site is very helpful http://www.geocities.jp/binewsjp/bia07.txt The asterisk next to the frequency indicates: Jammed by China: CNR1 2 freqs & Music [Firedrake]. Thanks again Noel (Ron Howard, CA, ibid.) ** CUBA. 6120, R. Rebelde (presumed), 0332-0401*, Sept 15, two stations mixing. One was R. Or just a stock shot? Similar story to the one we had before, and discussed how this might work propagationally, on 640 kHz from Tierra del Fuego, but apparently the idea is still under consideration (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Steven Allan Says: September 16th, 2007 at 16:20 e The population of The Falklands is only about 3,000 in total. Most of the people don’t speak Spanish and would never listen to this proposed station and the powers that be in Argentina will know that. The idea of a radio station for one or two listeners is ludicrous, so I assume that the idea is to get the people of Argentina to listen and make them think that there are loads of listeners on The Falklands who will be drinking in the propaganda or something like that. In the course of it all, the government will be able to build up some anti-British sentiment and, as they did in 1982, divert the Argentinians’ attention away from the domestic problems. As with all modern inventions, there is always a down side and I’m afraid this is an example of one of them (Media Network blog via DXLD) ** FRANCE [non]. As TDF continues its DRM tests on 17870-17875-17880 via Guiana French, M-F nominally from 1300, but sometimes not on until 1400, if at all, I wonder whether the RFI English broadcast at 1400 is ever put on this transmitter? Or the one at 1600? I have never seen this reported by the few who do have DRM receivers. If they did that, it might prompt North Americans to make a bit more effort to decode it. But that would of course entail RFI actually admitting that more in NAm understand English than French. They have at least availablized the 1400 broadcast via the WRN NAm service, which is entirely in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** GABON. Was looking through my WRTH for information on German regional stations and noticed that they have the shortwave outlet on 6190 listed as Deutschlandfunk. I thought Deutschlandfunk was on the now-silent 6005 outlet, and 6190 was DeutschlandRADIO. There are two addresses listed, one for Deutschlandfunk, and one for Deutschlandradio Kultur. Which of the two is correct for the 6190 outlet - Deutschlandradio Kultur, or Deutschlandfunk? 73 - (J. D. Stephens, Hampton Cove, AL, USA, HCDX via DXLD) FYI, 6190 DeutschlandFunk Cologne program. 6005 former DeutschlandRadio Kultur Berlin program (ex US RIAS Berlin broadcaster transmitter since 1951) 73 wb http://topnews.wwdxc.de 73 wb (Wolfgang Büschel, ibid.) Hi J.D. Stephens, Deutschlandfunk (DLF) is still - and since a few years - on 6.190 kc, while DeutschlandRadio (Kultur) has to stop transmissions on 6.005 kc (formerly RIAS) because of a damaged transmitter site in Berlin Britz. You will find both programms on http://www.dradio.de GL (Tom DF5JL, ibid.) I just would like to add that the Berlin Britz transmitter was damaged by fire a short while ago, so Deutschlandradio management had to decide whether to repair the site or not. Apparently, the latter decision was taken because the investment was not regarded proportional to the actual and the potential number of listeners on shortwave. Internet streaming plays a much more important role in transmitting radio programmes abroad these days, while internet activities are, by the way, supported by the latest jurisdiction of the German Constitutional Court backing public financing of public service radio stations, although there is enormous pressure on German radio to lower costs. Deutschlandfunk and Deutschlandradio Kultur are the only two radio programmes in Germany that provide a country-wide service. Deutschlandradio is one radio station providing these two programmes. This is why there is only one internet website at http://www.dradio.de/ for both programmes. So much for "the rest of the story", so to speak. ;-) Regards, (Jürgen Fenn, HCDX via DXLD) ** GERMANY. First impressions of IBOC at Mannheim The HD Radio test on Heidelberg 102.8 (Radio Regenbogen) has apparently started. A first report: http://forum.mysnip.de/read.php?8773,513947,526008#msg-526008 Says that Aschaffenburg on 103.0 (Antenne Bayern; 25 kW, about 70 km away) can still be clearly heard at Mannheim, about 15 km away from the 102.8 transmitter. But at Heidelberg only white noise or what has the appearance of an empty carrier can now be heard on 103.0 anymore. The poster concludes that an implementation of HD Radio would require a complete reshuffeling of the FM band in Central Europe, similar to the Dutch "Zerobase" project (much praised in German DX circles), with everybody renouncing of frequencies and analogue coverage, something he considers as rather unlikely. I would say: Just forget it (Kai Ludwig, Germany, Sept 16, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** GREECE. Re: The Communicator being scrapped Work halted due to concerns over asbestos, full story: http://www.laserradio.net/ (Mike Barraclough, Sept 13, BDXC-UK via DXLD) WORK ON BREAKUP OF MV COMMUNICATOR SUSPENDED Work on the breakup of the former radio ship MV Communicator in St Margaret’s Hope, Orkney, has been suspended after the authorities discovered that the owner, Andrew Banks, did not have the necessary licence to carry out the demolition. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency spoke to Mr Banks, who agreed to suspend the demolition work. Another body, the Health and Safety Executive, has also been looking into the matter, as it suspects that there may still be a lot of asbestos on the ship. According to Banks, all harmful materials have been removed from the ship, but he does not wish to hamper the investigation. If any traces of asbestos are found, the remaining work will have to be carried out by a specialised company. RADIO FARDA CORRESPONDENT AZIMA ALLOWED TO LEAVE IRAN; LEGAL CONCERNS REMAIN Radio Farda correspondent Parnaz Azima, a virtual prisoner in Iran for more than eight months, has left Iran and is en route to the United States - but criminal charges against her have not been lifted. RFE/RL President Jeff Gedmin welcomed news of Azima’s departure, saying: “For eight long months, Parnaz’ colleagues at RFE/RL have been waiting for the day when she will be a free person again. We are happy Parnaz can finally be reunited with her family and see her newborn grandchild for the first time.” But Gedmin said he remains concerned because a legal cloud still hangs over Azima. A citizen of both the US and Iran, Azima’s Iranian passport was confiscated on arrival in Tehran in late January to visit her ailing mother. She has been charged with acting against Iranian national security and spreading anti-Iranian propaganda by working for “counterrevolutionary” Radio Farda. The criminal case against her remains active and the deed to her mother’s house in Tehran, offered in lieu of $550,000 in bail, has not been returned. Azima has rejected the charges, stating repeatedly that she was only doing her job as a journalist. She was trapped in Iran with three other Iranian-Americans. Woodrow Wilson International Center scholar Haleh Esfandiari returned to the US earlier this month after spending 105 days in prison, while Open Society Institute consultant Kian Tajbakhsh and peace activist Ali Shakeri remain in jail. Azima was scheduled to leave on Saturday, 15 September, but was prevented from doing so by customs officials who insisted that, because she had been in Iran for more than eight months, she was now legally considered a resident of Iran and had to have her passport amended to reflect this. Spanish gospel talk, a TWR-produced program with Radio Transmundial references a few times. Very strong, dominating the channel and sometimes nearly local level. Anyone else notice that this one seems to be much stronger once again? Not the 500 kW days, but certainly seems every bit of the 100 kW it's currently listed as. (Terry L Krueger, Clearwater, Florida, DX LISTENING DIGEST) They have a multi-pattern direxional array which they switch at specific times for different target areas, unique for MW in the Western Hemisphere? Checking the WRTH 2007, we see that Portuguese, native languages and Spanish should have been included in this block, on 882 kHz! All TWR Bonaire listings are shown as 882 kHz, apparently mixed up with Sri Lanka! This was corrected to 800 kHz in the May pdf update, and the schedules had changed. Now this block is entirely in Spanish, and all broadcast targets are simply C&SAm, without hinting at any pattern switching, tho surely it still goes on, at least when concentrating on Brasil. Even stranger, the website given in WRTH, http://www.twrbonaire.com now automatically forwards to http://www.gospelcom.net/ which appears to be an online rather than radio ministry, and we find no mention of TWR on it! Does this mean that TWR Bonaire is now run by Gospelcom? Or TWR does not want to bother maintaining an own website; this one does lead to some 300 individual ministries. No, if we start at the TWR homepage http://www.twr.org we can reach Radio Transmundial Venezuela http://www.transmundial.org.ve/ and in turn 800 Bonaire with a program schedule: http://www.transmundial.org.ve/800am.php evidently in local time of UT -4, but what will they do when Venezuela shortly goes on UT -4:30?? After heavy promotion for at least the previous week, OETA was unable to air an interview with ex-Senator and ex-Governor Henry Bellmon, who despite being a Republican is highly respected (and he apparently became seriously ill shortly after the interview was recorded). This was at 0000 UT Wednesday Sept 19. It was as if the control operator couldn`t find the tape and just started punching buttons at random! We had IDs over and over, the same promo for another program over and over, black screen, one-moment-please slide which lasted many moments, PBS network billboards, and finally at 0012 joined PBS for Live from Lincoln Center --- except that was supposed to run on one-hour delay here from 0100! I kept watching, since who knows if it would really be on again an hour later. At 0059 Dvorak`s Cello Concerto was almost but not quite over when Yo Yo Ma was rudely interrupted for black screen, PBS countdown, and restart LFLC at its originally scheduled time. But within the next 5 minutes they switched back to the live feed at intermission, and ran a streamer that the Bellmon interview would be at 9 pm instead = 0200 UT, and so it did. NEW TRANSMITTER AND FREQUENCY FOR RADIO PAKISTAN LAHORE STATION --- Hi, I regularly read the World of Radio which is a source of updated information about shortwave as well as medium wave radio transmissions. Lately I have been reading some reports regarding confusion about the new medium wave frequency of 1332 kHz of Radio Pakistan Lahore station which is not mentioned on Radio Pakistan website. I live in Lahore and confirm that a new transmitter of 100 KW is being used for this frequency and the station has been named as Radio Pakistan Channel 3. This is in addition to the earlier transmitters for frequencies of 630 and 1080 kHz of Radio Pakistan Lahore. The transmission of Radio Pakistan News and Current Affairs Channel is also relayed by Channel 3 at 1332 kHz in the morning and evening, in addition to its own programs. The Channel 2, i.e. 1080 kHz of Radio Pakistan Lahore is now being used for Qur`an recitation broadcast. I have been requesting the Radio Pakistan website administrator since last one year to update the info on the website related to new transmitters but they lend a deaf ear to any correspondence and I think that they do not even bother to open the mail box on their website. In addition to the said transmitter at Lahore, two new medium wave transmitters have been installed at Peshawar and Quetta respectively. It may be of interest to note that after so many complaints about the obsolete shortwave transmitters, Radio Pakistan has ultimately decided to purchase two new shortwave transmitters of 100 kW each which are being installed at Karachi. The site will be the same where the earlier dysfunctional transmitters were installed, i.e. Landhi, Karachi. It may further be noted that the time mentioned for Pushto Service in the External Service schedule of Radio Pakistan website is 0500-0545 GMT, which is incorrect. The correct time is 1500-1545 GMT. This might be a typo error (Aslam Javaid, 136/H Model Town Lahore, Sept 18, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Many thanks for your info. Please keep us informed with any further news about these MW and SW transmissions (gh, DXLD) ** PAKISTAN. Re: Updated summer A-07 of Radio Pakistan, including: PASHTO 0500-0545 6235.4 [but see above! The attack has damaged equipment and some reporters are said to be injured. "The staff of the station fled when the attack on the premises started. Nobody knows where they are. The incident came three days after police stormed the radio station, accusing one of its journalists of hurling a grenade at a police patrol and detaining 14 members of staff. “We are trapped inside the building because the government forces have sealed off the streets around the station. They are opening heavy fire on the building,” a Shabelle journalist told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity. ”Everybody is lying on the floor. We cannot keep our heads up because of gunfire. They are asking us to open the gates and nobody is willing to do that. Most of the windows are shattered,” he added. At least seven journalists have been killed in Somalia this year. Media watchdogs have urged all sides to ensure better protection for journalists, several of whom have also been wounded or robbed. Somalia is the second deadliest country in the world for journalists in 2007, after Iraq, according to the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists. "No money pledged for the development of South Sudan is going to Darfur", Ban Ki-Moon told UN Radio Miraya FM in Juba in interview. During Oslo international donors conference, held in April 2005, donor countries pledged 4.5 billion US dollars to bolster peace and reconstruction in the war-plagued southern Sudan. However officials in the South have complained that they have received a small portion of these pledges. The UN top official stressed that the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) is "a billion dollar peacekeeping operation, designed solely to support the parties in implementing the CPA." The Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) was signed in January 2005 between the National Congress Party which then ruled in the National Government and the then rebel Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement, bringing an end to 21 years of civil war in the country. The Minister of Information in the semi-autonomous Government of South Sudan, Dr Samson Kwaje, claimed last month that money pledged for Southern Sudan by the international community was going to Darfur. Ban Ki-Moon said that he was "overwhelmed by the warm welcome of the people of south Sudan". He said this ''makes my resolve further strengthened to work for the peace and security and development of southern Sudan". WCBS-FM GETS HUGE AUDIENCE BOOST AFTER RETURN TO OLDIES The first monthly audience estimates are in for New York radio since the return of WCBS-FM to its oldies format after a gap of two years. The figures show an enormous boost for the station, which has shot up to second place with a 4.8% market share in August, compared to 1.9% in June when it was still broadcasting the Jack format. It should be noted that the complete July-September ratings will be published next month, and the three-monthly figures may not be quite as spectacular. Nevertheless, the station is thrilled with these preliminary figures. “We’re excited about our progress, ”WCBS-FM Program Director Brian Thomas told the NY Daily News. “I’ve never seen this kind of response to any station.” Andy Sennitt comments: I’m listening to WCBS-FM as I type this. I decided to locate this on September 15th after googling the site. I tracked it down but it's impossible in a practical sense to get real close. It appears a short private "road" (dirt path) between two houses (with lots of shit junk like dead boats, decomposed grills etc. strewn in the White Trash yards) gets one there, and lots of overgrown trees and weeds beyond that. I drove in but turned around quickly, fearing a shotgun in the face on the exit if I lingered out of the car with the digital SLR in hand. Probably the airport (a/k/a Pinellas County) or whoever actually owns the thing has legal access rights on the path for maintenance, not that it looks like anyone has actually been there in a hundred years. I took photos from the back of an old elementary school to the NNE, about 500-800 feet away. Didn't expect the antenna to be what it was: weird parabolic/round Yagi (?) or whatever you call the wire contraption mounted on a single pole, lots of trees around it. The required old osprey nest in the center, of course. Surprisingly, no harmonic on 720 noted, though lots of MW overload from an unID local station (will have to check to see whose stick is nearby -- I vaguely recall there is one from having heard overload in the immediate area ages ago). KOFI-1180 coverage map for advertisers: Click on Advertise, at http://www.kofiradio.com/indexk2.html The four different contours are not labeled! What does this mean? Why in the world aren`t they labeled with night/day, mv/m? KOFI is 50/10 kW U2, which means 50 kW day, non-direxional, and 10 kW night, direxional. The smaller non-circular contour, however looks like it is groundwave, influenced by the mountain range to the west, so that would be daytime? The larger circular contours sure don`t go very much further as would be expected for nighttime skywave, but that is supposed to be direxional. KOFI is one of those few ``almost clear channel`` stations which ought to have big coverage at night, even if direxional, not the smaller inside contours (that is, until IBOCh interference from KEX- 1190 Portland et al. messed everything up). On the contrary, the bigger circular patterns must be theoretical daytime coverage, so the smaller non-circular contours must be nighttime, even if they don`t match FCC or radio-locater versions. Has anyone axually measured their field strength in different direxions and at different distances? Otherwise, this is all pretty meaningless (except to advertisers who don`t know any better?) The NRC Pattern Book shows a very different picture. Daytime is a non- direxional circle, and nighttime is almost a figure 8 N/S, with a null toward WHAM Rochester, of course. Almost, meaning the null to the west is not pulled in nearly as much as to the east. This matches the night pattern at FCC: http://www.fcc.gov/ftp/Bureaus/MB/Databases/AM_DA_patterns/45972-10705.pdf And it`s dated 16 Sept 2007 --- does that mean there has been a very recent change?? Transmitter site is just east of Kalispell, which is a good idea since there must be a night null to the east. Of course, the circular daytime pattern merely means it starts out non-direxional, not taking into account mountain blockage, differences in ground conductivity. What do the patterns at radio-locator.com show? Still different! Daytime: http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KOFI&service=AM&status=L&hours=D has it circular but cut off toward the north, i.e. Glacier NP region, not west/southwest, the more distant Bitteroot Range. Nighttime: http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KOFI&service=AM&status=L&hours=N is similar to the others, kidney-shaped N/S with null toward east. This of course is groundwave at night, ignoring skywave! 73, (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. Who decides what ratio is to be used? I was thinking 10:1 is pretty standard these days, altho I can well remember when it was 2:1 and DX station audio would come booming in. Mexico kept the lower ratio longer than the US. I notice that the W9WI database, despite all its other details, does not even mention aural powers, so one cannot study or compare today`s ratios.`` I've seen anything between 5 and 20%. FCC regulation 73.682(a)(15) says: "The effective radiated power of the aural transmitter must not exceed 22% of the peak radiated power of the visual transmitter." In other words, the station license no longer specifies an aural power (that's also why aural power doesn't appear in my database or on any other site). The station may pick any figure it likes as long as it doesn't exceed 22% of peak visual. The WISC-TV backup transmitter was a 10 kW unit, with a large cylindrical 25 kW amplifier (containing **seven** tubes) to increase the output to the licensed figure of about 18 kW. There was a second amplifier, identical in appearance, but in mothballs when I was there. It had been purchased in 1956 (when that was the main transmitter) to increase the output of the aural side, when the station's aural power was 50% of visual. When the FCC reduced the limit and WISC dropped to 20% aural, the external aural amplifier was no longer necessary. It was turned off and removed from the circuit. Yep, it's not applicable to DTV. [see also GERMANY!] UT Sept 14 from 0450 to 0525 I scanned the MW band several times on the DX-398 in the yard. This was after the EDT midnight start, and from 0500 UT after the midnight CDT start. I must say none of this would have been very noticeable if I had not been looking for it. In most cases I had to null the dominant station in order to hear the hiss, and it was no problem to hear the dominant stations unless they were nulled. In most cases I could not get a hiss-match above and below a certain frequency because the analog signal on one side or the other was too strong. There could also be some `false-positives` here, noise mistaken for IBOCh. I looked for IBOCh accompanying KTOK-1000 OKC, but could not detect it on 990-CBW, or ?-1010 even when aimed at OKC; may not have been on. Did not detect it on 1190 or 1210 aside WOAI. Of course, some stations that are going to do it may not have promptly turned it on at local midnight. Things may be worse the following evening and onward. Around sunset have previously heard KMOX-1120 and KFAB-1110 doing a number on each other but this time could not detect any IBOCh from KMOX. Also looked for it especially on 690 and 710 from WLW but could not detect it. WOR-710 is DX out here, so not surprising could not hear it on 700 or 720 from them. Did not hear any IBOCh in the 1230-1490 regional/local channels, loaded as they are with piles and piles of analog signals. This was still before midnight in MDT and PDT, so if KOA or other big signals from the west are doing it, too early to tell. Fortunately I don`t have any 50 kW locals, and my three 1 kW locals on 960, 1390 and 1640 aren`t into IBOCh, AFAIK. At this rate, I would say IBOCh won`t disrupt normal listening much, but can certainly be a problem versus weak signal DX. 73, (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, dxldyg and several MW groups via DX LISTENING DIGEST) Hi Glenn, 590 & 610: That would be WMT-HD Cedar Rapids, Iowa. No decode here yet, but I've got enough signal it's just a matter of time (Curtis Sadowski, Paxton, Illinois, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Your observations were pretty much correct. There were several stations on my list that were not IBOC such as WWL, WSM, and WLW that were coming in without much hash. But WWL comes in pretty good during daytime hours in Central Mississippi. And as for distant DX I was barely able to bag WPHT out of Philadelphia, Pa. And the same with KOA out of Denver. Before IBOC at night WPHT came in pretty good later at night although there was a little fading. With the IBOC hash you can barely get WPHT over the noise. I tuned in to WREC and heard some IBOC hash. The same with WDIA. These were in Memphis and were the closest HD Radio outlets on AM I could hear at night. We do not have IBOC on radio on any of the AM stations here in Central Mississippi yet. And although it seems hard to believe, some of the public radio stations in Mississippi are taking the lead to get HD Radio on FM although it is mainly Jackson right now. So were a little behind the rest of the country but I am sure we'll catch up one day (Richard Lewis, Grundig G4000A, Forest, MS, Sept 16, ibid.) Public radio stations all over have ``taken the lead`` with IBOCh on FM, tnx to a sweet deal from iBiquity. 73, (Glenn, ibid.) Way out there, 93 million miles away, our nearest STAR, amigo SOL, is now taking a break, and the actual sunspot count has gone down ZERO for many, many days one after the other...No active sunspot regions in sight and I expect a very low sunspot count and a diminishing solar microwave energy flux to continue during the next seven to ten days... More about HF, VHF, UHF and Microwave propagation later, at the end of the program. Let me reiterate that solar activity is at very , very low levels, and that is having a very negative impact on short wave propagation conditions. I think that according to the present state of solar activity the probability of a large solar flare happening is very, very low. Now as always at the end of the show here is OUR HF PLUS VHF, UHF AND MICROWAVES PROPAGATION UPDATE AND FORECAST Solar activity is VERY LOW, and very probably it will continue at extremely low levels for the next seven to 10 days... Sunspot numbers of ZERO or near ZERO are expected during this period, and the microwave solar flux should bottom at figures around 65 to 70 units for the rest of this solar rotation (Arnie Coro, CO2KK, RHC DXers Unlimited Sept 18 via DXLD) The geomagnetic field was quiet at all latitudes during a majority of the period. ACE solar wind data indicated a recurrent coronal hole wind stream occurred during 14 - 16 September, though it was not geoeffective. The wind stream began around 14/2000 UTC, then subsided on 16 September. The onset of the stream was preceded by a solar sector boundary crossing (away (+) to toward (-)) at approximately 12/1000 UTC. Peak velocity associated with the stream was 360 km/sec at 15/0404 UTC, while density peaked at 30 p/cc at 14/1632 UTC. IMF variance associated with the stream included a maximum total field intensity of 11 nT at 14/2138 UTC and a minimum Bz reading of -8 nT at 14/2352 UTC. FORECAST OF SOLAR AND GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY 19 SEPT - 15 OCT 2007 Solar activity is expected to be very low. No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is expected to reach high levels during 24 September - 10 October. Geomagnetic field activity is expected to be at quiet to unsettled levels during 19 - 22 September. Activity is expected to increase to unsettled to active levels during 23 - 24 September due to a recurrent coronal hole high-speed stream. Activity is expected to decrease to quiet to unsettled levels during 25 - 28 September as the stream subsides. Activity is expected to increase to unsettled to minor storm levels during 29 - 30 September due to another recurrent coronal hole high-speed stream. Activity is expected to decrease to quiet to unsettled levels during 01 - 02 October. Activity is expected to increase to unsettled to active levels during 03 - 04 October due to another recurrent coronal hole high-speed stream. Mostly quiet conditions are expected during the remainder of the period. :Product: 27-day Space Weather Outlook Table 27DO.txt :Issued: 2007 Sep 18 1654 UTC # Prepared by the US Dept. of Commerce, NOAA, Space Environment Center # Product description and SEC contact on the Web # http://www.sec.noaa.gov/wwire.html # # 27-day Space Weather Outlook Table # Issued 2007 Sep 18 # # UTC Radio Flux Planetary Largest # Date 10.7 cm A Index Kp Index 2007 Sep 19 67 5 2 2007 Sep 20 67 8 3 2007 Sep 21 70 8 3 2007 Sep 22 70 10 3 2007 Sep 23 70 15 4 2007 Sep 24 70 10 3 2007 Sep 25 70 8 3 2007 Sep 26 70 5 2 2007 Sep 27 70 8 3 2007 Sep 28 70 10 3 2007 Sep 29 70 20 5 2007 Sep 30 70 15 4 2007 Oct 01 70 8 3 2007 Oct 02 68 8 3 2007 Oct 03 68 15 4 2007 Oct 04 68 10 3 2007 Oct 05 68 5 2 2007 Oct 06 68 5 2 2007 Oct 07 68 5 2 2007 Oct 08 68 5 2 2007 Oct 09 67 5 2 2007 Oct 10 67 5 2 2007 Oct 11 67 5 2 2007 Oct 12 67 5 2 2007 Oct 13 67 5 2 2007 Oct 14 67 5 2 2007 Oct 15 67 5 2 (http://www.sec.noaa.gov/radio via DXLD) ###
