Maybe new for me. Normally hear IA/CO/TX stations, not so much OK,
``AR`` Fort Smith.

** GERMANY. 3955, March 16 at 1805, `Uncle Bill`s Melting Pot`,

CCI, unknown what. Much better on // 9670 S9+20. 1810 tribute to

** MEXICO. 660 kHz, UT Monday March 17 at 0431 ``Nuevo León en La Hora

check of some other NLs, sounds similar but can`t make //, XEG 1050,
XEMR 1140 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO [and non]. 1549.82, March 13 at 0507 UT, into Querétaro SDR,
songs in English from some UStation, but also het on low side JBA ---
and JBV on the waterfall when enlarged. Much too weak to pull any mod
from it even by LSB tuning. By 0557 it`s a bit louder and sharper. At
0611 direct, same het/signal JBA on 1549.82.

Now I`m also intrigued by the 1550.0 UStation, as most of them except
very far ones, run under 100 watts at night, even in the single
digits, allegedly. 1550 ran thru 0600, no ID at 0602 but another
song.

Daytime at 1645 UT March 13 into Qro SDR there is a weak line on 1550
as about -16 Hz, but inaudible.

BTW, IRCA Mexican Log 2024 showed two more on 1550, both CPs and
presumably not yet on air, XECCAW in Jalisco, XECSGC in QRoo (Glenn

jazz music after 0000, until 0200 long newscast until 0230, on sked as
`Pulso de la Noche` on some of their outlets but not on 6185 sked,
followed by another 107.9 ID and back to music. Replies to my earlier

``Days of Hard Life by Lace from YHWH Pirate Station Opening
Nelson Ogden 648 subscribers 1,287 views Oct 14, *2016*

Here is the opening to one of YHWH's shortwave broadcasts. I recorded
this from WBCQ's board feed online (not off air) for best sound
quality. YHWH used to be a pirate broadcaster, but after being busted
by the FCC, no longer operates. He did, however, run two specials on
WBCQ 7490 kHz. This is the opening to one of them.

The host has previously quoted this song as "Days of Hard Life" by
Lace. The only Lace I can find is a country and western band. This is
certainly not their music. In fact, it sounds like it might not even
be professionally produced. If it is done by amateur musicians, it is
very good, but it just doesn't quite sound professional. Its {sic} not
perfectly in time, vocals are very bright and harsh. There is heavy
compression, but that's probably from WBCQ's audio processor.

I uploaded this for those that are interested in hearing a good
quality version of this song. I'm not too interested in YHWH's
message.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 7475, March 15 at 0614, JBA carrier direct, presumed
Station YHWH running late again, and nothing else scheduled.

Re Station YHWH report with the YT of ``Days of Hard Life``, Rick

and he wrote that the song was actually recorded under the pseudonym
"Lace" by himself and his (then) wife. He sent me a CD that had it and
few other songs they did at the time. best``

And Yahoo mail has this great new AI thing, summarizing what`s in
emails, and gets this TOTALLY WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG:

``- Rick in Arizona -- Rick acknowledges your correspondence regarding
the song 'Lace' by Glenn Hauser and confirms that it was indeed
recorded under the pseudonym 'Lace' by Glenn Hauser and his wife.
Created by Yahoo Mail. Was this helpful?`` DAMN NOT, GO AWAY!!!!
WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. Are others getting these intrusions??

** NORTH AMERICA. 11529.9, it seems we won`t be hearing ex-`Hikari FM`
on SW. FYI:

``[WOR] Pirate on 11529.9 kHz. (formerly Hikari FM) to leave SW, in
favor of MW (1710 kHz.) -- Hi Glenn - Here is my latest (March 14)
correspondence from Ivan, the operator of 1710 kHz. I will miss
chasing his SW signal to hear his unique musical selections. Ron
Howard (Monterey, Calif.)

"Yeah I do not think I should do 11530 anymore and should focus on
1710 kHz. It seems like it is possible to reach your area at night if
I dedicate the resources to it. On top of that I am getting attention
locally on 1710 kHz. It can be heard 24 kilometers away during the day
and that is just with 25 watts. However, as soon as I get a decent
signal out, I will move away from 1710 so that I do not have to deal
with XEPE {1700} which is strong in your area. I will let you know
once I do that.

The shortwave transmitter just kind of sucks as compared to the MW
transmitter, it is more powerful but the modulator is sensitive and
just kind of junk. But class G can be just as efficient as class D, it
is just bulkier. I think going forward the plan will be to disassemble
the shortwave antenna and use the wire from it to make the inverted L
longer and shrink the loading coil. Then I can build a 100 watt class
G MW transmitter and will be getting a decently strong signal into
your area at night. You can listen in your car, lol, you cannot do
that on shortwave {sic}. My hope with 11530 was to reach Asia, but I
do not think I can do that with what I have at the moment, I need a
directional antenna which is not feasible to put up here.

So you can forget about 11530 at this point in time. I am not going to
be on it for a while and by the time I will get the idea to try again
it will be with a different transmitter and probably in a different
location. Last time I tried MW, I failed (I was dumb and didn't use
single core wire for the antenna) but this time I am getting out at
night so I think It will be better to do it instead. Kind of like
killing two birds with one stone here, I get nighttime coverage and
local coverage which average people can listen to. Maybe getting into
British Columbia is not an option but I think I will reach more people
this way. Very Best Regards."`` (via Ron Howard, WOR iog)

``1710 is a non-starter in BC (coastal) as the channel is totally
dominated by Travis AFB. He needs to consider another channel. Perhaps
just outside of the MW band --- 1720? 73, Walt Salmaniw`` (via Glenn
Hauser, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 780, March 14 at 2035 UT, KSPI Stillwater is OFF the air.
There are high winds and wildfires all over OK but I have not seen one
close to Stillwater. OKC TV stations are in wall-to-wall coverage all
afternoon (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 780, March 14 at 2211 UT, KSPI Stillwater is
still off the air. Now I`m bandscanning on caradio with less noise
than in the house, yet more than usual in the garage. Shortly after my
previous report, circa 2200 UT I saw a notice on TV coverage of the
wildfires, that part of Stillwater was being evacuated! 93.9, KSPI-FM
however is still on air at 2218, separately programmed anyway and I
can`t tell whether the mere translator of 780 on 94.3 be on the air.
What else? By next check 1540 UT March 15, 780 is back on the air.

Only other semi-local AM signal missing is 1120, KETU Catoosa [Tulsa].
By next check 1540 UT March 15, 1120 is back on the air. There were
lots of power outages even unto areas not directly fire-threatened.

690, KGGF Coffeyville KS, almost in OK, is VG as usual, reporting
about power outages.

860, KKOW Pittsburg KS, almost in OK too, is JBA, despite 10 kW like
KGGF. It`s always somewhat weaker due to higher frequency, but maybe
underpowered now. At 2212 heard them mention 97.5, their mere
translator, and thought I heard previous callsign KOAM, but maybe I
was dreamagining that.

101.9, KTST OKC allowed itself to be interrupted at 2219 by a fire
warning concerning north Lincoln County. Did not hear that on any
other station, but couldn`t check all of them in time.

91.7, KOSU Stillwater still very much on the air with fire coverage
from some TV station pre-empting NPR ATC at 2217.

91.5, gospel huxter in Kansas with big hum and seems mono, at 2217.
That`s KSNS Medicine Lodge, almost in OK. Same defect a few days ago
as I tuned across. Some months ago we had reports about it being for
sale, by locals, tho owned by `Florida Public Radio`. Haven`t kept up
with any further news about that. This nothing to do with the
wildfires (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 162.475 MHz, WXL48, Enid Weather Radio we can now monitor
conveniently as channel 4 on the weather band of our new C Crane
Skywave SSB2. KFOR/NBC, KWTV/CBS and KOCO/ABC all blew away their
network news at 2230 UT March 14; KWTV did have some time for
commercials during the emergency. It and KOCO went back to networx for
prime time from 0000 UT March 15, but KFOR kept on wildfire coverage
until 0100. KOKH/Fox wasn`t doing much at all, as who needs it? Our
sky all afternoon was orange/yellow from all the blowing dust and
smoke. A far cry from the absolutely clear view of the Total Lunar
Eclipse last night. High winds also caused lots of power outages, but
so far not for us (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

off-frequency, as expected it`s this site, sked 1400-1500 M-F only in
BBC Somali. At other hours, BBC on 15420 via Ascension or Madagascar
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 8992 USB, March 13 at 0038, USAF crypto exercise message,
this time with an echo one-word-delayed, so two sites with a satellite
or internet connexion? S9+20 here and other //s not checked as I copy
the entire message fonetikaly as he say again:
HJEYPOGD7UJE2N7LG6A7PI2LU647GF - then ``this is Newband? Newman?
Out``. All it takes is one little fade to miss the tactical callsign
which is not spelt nor repeated immediately. However, retune at 0051,
a totally different crypto msg but not copied, no echo? sounds like
same ID, out (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 26110 NBFM, March 14 at 1520 UT, chat about the
MVP in the Central Valley, i.e. KMK282, aux of KOVR ``13``
Stockton/Sacramento CA, S6/S9 direct. Only approaches full quieting
above S9 on my meter. 1522 to dead air and turned off. I bandscan
25.9-26.5 MHz without finding any others. On 10m beacon band not even
K6FRC on 28300, just XE1JAL/B on 28276 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [non]. DOGE criminals have reportedly hit USAGM, starting to
close various subsidiary services, before VOA: March 15 at 1836, VOA
French still going VG on 15730 BOTSWANA S9+25/30, and at 1841, 12075
via VATICAN, violating Separation Of Church And State. VOA English
still going at 1837 on 15580 BOTSWANA; VOA Amharic at 1839 still going
via KUWAIT on 13765; all checked via UTwente. Some other VOA languages
have been replaced by music, if still on the air, as well as R. Ashna,
and Deewa per Jose Jacob. See this:
VOA STAFF PUT ON LEAVE AFTER TRUMP ORDERS CUTS, by Nathan Layne:
https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/trump-signs-order-gut-voice-america-other-agencies-2025-03-15/
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. VOA situation: Not all the staff at Greenville
[Grimesland] are full-time employees; seven technicians are personal
service contractors (PSC) and are to be put on administrative leave
until further notice, but not locked out, unlike some personnel in
Washington.

Five Government Service Employees remaining are: three supervisors,
the chief engineer and a secretary. One person already accepted a
buy-out. A former manager has returned. It`s unclear if there will be
enough staff to keep running the site 24/7.

Perhaps they will at least keep Radio Martí broadcasting as long as
the program feed remains. It seems there has been a lot of repetition
already in music and talk features to fill the 24-hour schedule.

Already planned: GB-8, a 500 kW AEG transmitter is to be retired, as
no high voltage transformer can be obtained for it. One of the Kuwait
senders, a Continental 417 will be moved in to replace it.

Now in doubt is a major expansion of the Kuwait site, three x 250 kW
Ampegons, to replace São Tomé, and others. Other relay sites? So far
it appears that Tinang, Philippines is still operating (Glenn Hauser,
0451 UT March 16, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. Monitoring by gh: 13820, March 16 at 1457, open
carrier S6/S7, 1500 JIP Radio Martí with ID. 11860 was not on at 1457
but is on after 1500. 11930 already running at 1457, S7/9+5, all
Grimesland NC site. Presumably about to be abolished.

Greenville manager Willford Cooper could not find anything out at 1604
UT March 16. The computer network was down and Greenville getting its
Martí programs from satellite. Staff could not put in their time
cards, get the daily activity report of operational memos from DC. So
if they had been told to shut down they would never know.

But by 1654 UT: The order has been passed to Macon Dail, the Chief
Engineer, to shut Greenville down. All employees have been told not to
show up for work.

Alan Furst, Kansas City, reports: ``Martí went off at 16:30 today
3/16.  All transmitters appear to be off in 22 and 25 meters. It
happened abruptly, although I wasn't listening closely to know what
they said at the end. Was a surprise.``

Many USAGM services are missing frequencies, dead air, filling with
music or repeating old programming as the axe is falling; much
monitoring of details in the WOR indian ocean group. The White House
has quoted Dan Robinson`s critique of VOA as one justification. And
Kim Elliott says, ``The zombification of VOA has begun. Listening at
0400 UTC 15 March on 4930 kHz, Botswana relay via an SDR in South
Africa: It was the VOA "Worldwide in Five" newscast from March 9 at
0200 UTC.`` - he probably meant 0400 UT 16 March as this was posted a
few minutes after that.

VOA`s broadcasting of week-olds eclipses Voice of Turkey, where their
olds would be no more than 14.5 hours stale.

At 1900 UT March 16, via UTwente checking all VOA scheduled
frequencies per EiBi:
Tigrigna: 9485 BOT & 12040 CVA dead air; 13765 KWT music
English: 13590 D-L = Germany music
French: 17700 GB OFF
Korean: 7465 & 9800 PHT, 9575 THA all with music
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 4930, March 17 at 0444, JBA carrier, no doubt VOA
BOTSWANA relay still on air, but others report no new programming, and
site expected to be closed down later this date.

9775, March 17 at 0455, S7/S9 of music with long pause between tunes,
presumably fill music, off by 0459: VOA English BOTSWANA scheduled
0300-0500, still running while HQ in Washington is locked up.

Various other relay sites are affected, MW and SW, disappearing from
air, replacing with other programming, etc., everyone trying to keep
up with this fast-breaking situation, reporting to the WOR iog. Of
course this also threatens innocent bystations using USAGM facilities
such as Radio Thailand, Pilipinas.

Greenville guys were told to shut the power off to the building. That
means no A/C and no heat. In NC the equipment will be ruined in a
month. It`s over for shortwave (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also CUBA

fill overnight (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 780, March 15 at 0640 UT, WBBM with `StarDate` about Spica
at its reliable time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED [and non]. 550, March 15 at 0634 UT and still at 0653, 1
kHz tone alternating with loop announcement, approx.: ``This is
Westwood One, SES-11, transponder 17, for receiver authorization,
please call Denver operations center, 720-873-5177 between 8 am and 10
pm eastern time``. Since when is Denver on EDT? Another instance of
Eastern zone hegemony. Same thing I was hearing one week ago during
the DST Hour Of Confusion, on WWL and at least tones on several other
MW frequencies, but bandscan tonight does not find any others --
however, at 0644 there is dead air on 850 KOA and 870 WWL. 550
dominant signal is most likely KTRS St Louis MO; two Texans, KCRS and
KTSA are unfavorable, and KFRM KS is low-powered at night (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 810.58 kHz, March 13 at 0612, JBA carrier still hetting
810.00 WHB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 810.57, March 14 at 0710 UT, still het against 810.0 WHB
stupid sports talk. Exact offset varies a little from one log to
another (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1030 kHz, March 15 at 0645 UT, romantic song in Spanish
-- oops, the romance is with Jesus. Only two candidates in the NRC AM
Log: KCWJ, Blue Springs MO, 500 watts at night and direxional
thisaway; or 50 kW daytimer +limited hours KCTA Corpus Christi TX
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1030 kHz, March 18 at 0645-0706+ UT, praise music in
Spanish again tonight. I stay with it hoping for any announcement,
even ToH ID, but none heard unless I dozed off. As on March 15, more
likely KCWJ MO than KCTA TX (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1030 kHz, March 19 in the 06/07 UT hour, nothing but
continuous praise music in Spanish. Sounds like from a single
performing group, song after song. Suspect KCWJ MO, Radio Vida.
Radio-locator leads to the network website
https://radiovida.com/about/
which does not include any station on 1030! HQ is in Weslaco TX, so
flagship is KRGE 1290. Also detailed program sched by day and time,
https://radiovida.com/programacion/
no zone specified, but should we assume it be CDT = UT-5? Most outlets
are in CT, but not all, and there are also in Argentina, Honduras,
México. With some blanx and no consistency during the 1-2+ am hour,
which might correlate with all the `fill` music I am hearing. Late at
night I`m normally offline, but will have to try to match webstream.
At 1700 UT, stream runs long string of IDs in English starting with
KRGE but not the whole list as on website; did not catch KCWJ
included. Are all stations taking the simultaneous network feed,
possibly inserting local IDs?

How about KCTA 1030 Corpus Christi, 50 kW daytimer + limited hours
depending on WBZ SR/SS but should never be on in the nightmiddle.
Weekday program sked shows starting at 4 am CT = 09 UT, and final
program starting at 8:32 pm = 0132 UT, so until 0200?? Entire program
sked does not show a single title in Spanish, altho NRC AM Log
classifies it as EE/SS:REL. That ``SS`` is the only reason I
considered it a possibility, besides running overtime (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1330, UT Mon Mar 17 at 0438 UT, hymn in English with
chimes is dominating. Unseems my regular nearbie, KNSS Wichita, which
is news/talk with far right extremists such as Hannity scheduled this
hour. Too many other choices of REL/GOS formats with low power, bad
direxionality (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4790, March 17 at 0443, JBA carrier vs CODAR, intriguing
since no broadcasters listed except an hour of ChiCom jamming at 1230
per EiBi; could be ute, but nothing on this exact frequency per
Klingenfuß 2022. Not a third harmonic as 4+7+9 = 20, not a multiple of
3 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4950, March 17 at 0445, JBA carrier, much weaker than
4940- Venezuela. Nothing listed in EiBi, Aoki, or Klingenfuß; but
could be 3 x 1650 or 5 x 990 or 9 x 550 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6882, March 17 at 0449, open carrier, pirate? None
reported currently in HFU; years ago, MRI appeared here. Ute? Nothing
on this exact frequency in Klingenfuß 2022 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7505, March 17 at 0451, JBA carrier; nothing but WRNO
listed except 25 minutes of ChiCom jamming at 2335. WRNO sometimes
runs much later than this; maybe Metairie merely excited? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9936.0 AM, March 15 at 0618 UT, S8/S9 open carrier
except for clix, at the rate of 20/minute = every 3 seconds, JBA out
to 9923/9950, +/- 13 or 14 kHz. What is this? Yet another one ending
in -6 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
